MF Family Home Care provides home care in Hyannis, MA for older adults who intend to stay in their own home — the year-round heart of Cape Cod, and the village where Cape Cod Hospital is. Owned and run by a Certified Nurse Aide registered with the state.
The ordinary things that have quietly stopped being possible.

Bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers, and moving safely from room to room.

Conversation, errands, appointments, and someone who notices what changed since last week.

Light housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping, and cooking at home.

For a parent who should not be alone overnight.

For the adult child currently covering everything alone.

Routine, patience, and the same familiar face instead of a rotation of strangers.

The two weeks after a discharge are when readmissions happen. That is the window where help matters most.

Small tasks with outsized consequences.

One call, a free visit at home, and a written plan you can change. Most families begin smaller than they expect.

Expired food, or the same frozen dinner repeating. Eating is usually the first thing to go quietly.

Unopened bills, a disconnected phone, a lapsed policy. Paperwork takes more concentration than families assume.

Monday's sweater on Thursday usually means bathing has become difficult, not that laundry got skipped.

A parent who cannot explain a bruise has often had a fall they decided not to mention, because mentioning it might mean losing the house.

No highway, then no nights, then only two familiar routes.

When the family caregiver is chronically anxious, the arrangement has already stopped working, whatever the parent says.
Every caregiver clears a Massachusetts CORI background check before entering a client’s home, and MF Family Home Care carries insurance covering the work our caregivers do in your home. Ask any agency for both — a household letting someone in unsupervised should not have to wonder. We match caregivers to households deliberately — schedule, temperament, language and the specific help required.
Hyannis has a substantial Portuguese-speaking community, and a caregiver who speaks the language changes everything as dementia advances. Our caregivers speak English, Portuguese and Spanish.
MF Family Home Care is owned by Marlene Plouf, a Certified Nurse Aide registered with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health under CNA54796 — a credential with a number the state can verify.
We provide non-medical home care. We do not perform skilled nursing, we do not operate a hospice program, and we do not bill Medicare.
If your parent needs wound care, IV therapy or a hospice team, you need a licensed home health agency, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than take the case and improvise.
Everything else — the bathing, the meals, the company, the safety, the nights — is our work.
Cape Cod runs above the rest of Massachusetts — in Barnstable, home care can reach $50 an hour.
Across Massachusetts, in-home care generally runs between $35 and $46 an hour, with a planning average near $38. Companion hours sit at the lower end of that range, hands-on personal care in the middle. Overnight and live-in schedules are quoted differently, because a caregiver who sleeps in the house is not billed like one working an active shift.
Your real figure depends on how many hours, which hours, and how much physical help is needed. We give a number on the phone rather than a brochure.
One call. Tell us what happened and what a normal day looks like now compared with six months ago.
A visit at no cost. We come to the house and look at the stairs, the bathroom, the kitchen, and the hours when nobody is around.
A plan that can change. Most families begin smaller than they expect and adjust within the first month.
No long-term contract is required to begin.
The hospital is here. Cape Cod Hospital is in Hyannis, which means that for most of the Cape, coming home from hospital involves a drive — and for you it does not. The ambulance ride is short, the visiting is easy, and the discharge home takes minutes.
The catch is that short discharges happen fast. Families in Hyannis are regularly told in the morning that their father is coming home that afternoon, with nothing arranged for the night. That is the single most common call we take from this village, and it is why we answer the phone at night and at weekends rather than leaving a voicemail box on.
Hyannis does not empty out in the winter. Most of Cape Cod does — streets that are full in August have three occupied houses by January. Hyannis is the exception: it is the year-round, working part of the Cape, with people on the street in February and neighbors who are actually home. If your parent lives here, the informal safety net that vanishes elsewhere on the Cape largely stays in place.
But the housing is different too. Hyannis has apartments, condominiums and two-family houses in a way the rest of the Cape does not, and a second-floor apartment with an exterior staircase is a different proposition from a ranch on a quiet road. Parking near Main Street for a four-hour shift is a real question, not a detail. We settle both before the first day rather than discovering them on it.
We serve Hyannis, including Hyannis Port and the neighborhoods around Main Street and the harbor, along with the rest of Barnstable — Centerville, Osterville, Cotuit, Marstons Mills, West Barnstable and Barnstable Village — and the neighboring town of Yarmouth.
Our office is at 21 College Road, West Yarmouth, MA 02673, a few minutes away. That closeness is why we can staff short visits in Hyannis that agencies based further off simply cannot.
We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
The questions families ask us most, answered plainly.
Usually within a few days. We answer the phone at night and on weekends, because hospital discharges do not wait for Monday morning.
We build the schedule around the household rather than a fixed block. Tell us which hours are hard and we will tell you honestly what we can staff.
Yes. Our caregivers speak English, Portuguese and Spanish. Tell us which one your parent is most comfortable in when you call.
We accept long-term care insurance, which frequently covers exactly this kind of care. Some veterans and surviving spouses also qualify for VA benefits toward it. We are not a Medicare provider. Bring us the policy and we will go through it with you.
That is the most common call we take. Two hours, one task, the same caregiver every visit works far better than argument. Acceptance comes from familiarity, not persuasion.
We cover the shift. A schedule that only works when one person stays healthy is not a schedule.
